As you all may know, there has been a lack of innovation around the e-learning industry lately. From my perspective, this is a result of the unhealthy, cautious relationships established between buyers and suppliers of e-learning products and services. So, there’s a big question here (a virtual elephant in the room): when businesses talk about “innovation”, I am constantly thinking what do they really mean?
My view is that they’re simply asking people like me to to produce more conventional e-learning courses, away from face to face classroom sessions. Sure, there is a very good commercial rationale for e-learning and instructional design content, but some companies I have worked with, find it hard to take on truly ground-breaking projects because I feel that their learning designers/IDs are only really content monkeys and their project management methodologies are really only suited to highly structured projects. What I would give to work on a “ground breaking” e-learning solution.
